The Moon Pads Story

The creator and manufacturer of Moon Pads is a trained nurse and one of the many women who have suffered the severe discomfort and potential dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Using disposable pads rather than tampons eased her symptoms but she continued to suffer reactions such as allergic irritation from the disposable pads.

These ongoing problems caused her to examine her menstrual needs and develop a more natural and comfortable alternative to existing products.

"I suddenly realized there was absolutely no reason, except unthinking habit, for me to continue to use disposable pads"

The result was Moon Pads washable menstrual pads, a soft, natural solution, answering both health and environmental concerns. So that other women can share the advantages of a washable, reusable pad Moon Pads are now produced commercially, as a one-woman, home-based business.

As a small business with a low annual income, Moon Pads is registered for GST exemption, making your purchases even more economical!

'Moon Pads' is the registered trade mark of Moon Pads.

Moon Pads menstrual pads and stress incontinence pads are made of 100% cotton fabrics which breathe freely and are soft and gentle on the skin.

They are designed with wings, enabling them to be securely placed in regular pants without fear of movement or stains to outer clothing.

Moon Pads come in a range of sizes catering for light, medium, heavy or night-time flow. Some pad designs are also available with a waterproof nylon layer at the back for added security (waterproof pads are suitable for stress-incontinence or periods).

With absorbent cotton towelling on the inside and soft cotton fabric on the outside, Moon Pads are fully washable and reusable. Trials to date have proven the all cotton pads can be used well in excess of 200 times. (Just think how many months they will serve you!)

What people are saying about Moon Pads

"Just wanted to say that I believe your products are fantastic! I have seen other pads out there, but yours are superior! Have told all my female friends about them! Thankyou and well done on a job that not enough people appreciate, but should!!" (Gem, NSW)

"Well 2 weeks after weaning and hello I'm a cycling woman again! Moon Pads were fantastic - I've been hanging out to use them and they were fantastic! I can't believe I used disposables for so long - gross......ignorance I guess. Thanks I guess, love Pru."

"The moon pads are great. Best invention ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Karen, Tas)

"I've been using cloth pads for years, but my girlfriend was always a bit squeamish about it. She finally borrowed some of mine when she ran out of disposables, and has vowed to never go back. Yay! We have a little box above our toilet for our pads and cups - a big improvement on all that environmentally toxic stuff. Good on you!" (Holly, WA)

"I'm definitely enjoying the pads! ... They're absolutely the best things since sliced bread.... no more odor, no more rash, no more welts from the sharp sides of the disposables! I love it!" (Karen, Vic)

"the moonpads ... really are such a pleasure to use. i'm almost sad to see my period finish because it means i have to wait another month before i can use them again. sounds funny, but it's true. :-)" (Coralie, NSW)

"I recently purchased some Moon Pads for the first time. I was keen to try them for environmental reasons, as an alternative to disposable products. However, as keen as I was to try them, I was also a bit hesitant, as I was worried about how absorbent they would be and also the comfort factor. I am pleased to say that Moon Pads have surpassed all my expectations. They are just as absorbent as the commercial products and even more comfortable. I really enjoy wearing them - they are extremely comfortable!! Thank for making such a great product!" (Amanda, Qld)

"I just wanted to let you know I had our baby last week, a boy called Luke, 8 pound 10 ounces, born at home. He was a lot bigger than my other children (6p13, 6p15 and 6p6) and not quite as early (he was one week and the others were all 3 weeks).
Anyway I especially wanted to let you know that I LOVE using the cloth pads (mostly trifold and trifold nights) for maternity use. Absolutely wonderful!
I do have a recomendation - had I previously thought of my husband doiung the washing for the first few days I would have ordered a couple more trifold night pads!
Thanks for doing a wonderful job!" (Rebecca, NSW)

"I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the froggy princesses! Thank you so much! And the extra length in the extra large pads means I bet I can use them at night. Hooray! Finally, something leakproof I can use in bed! I never thought I'd say it, but I'm actually kind of looking forward to my period now. ;)" (A, USA)

"What a bloody good idea!" (Robyn, Tas)

"It was nice to have a longer [night-time] pad. Washing it... was easier than I thought. It's a good idea." (Cate, Tas)

"I am one of your happy Moon Pad customers and would like to say keep up the good work!" (Irma, ACT)

Caring for Moon Pads

Care of Moon Pads is easy. Simply soak immediately after use in cold water, then rinse before washing in the usual family wash. Always use COLD water to soak and rinse as hot water will 'set' any stains.

Many women find it helpful to keep a small covered bucket (icecram container? honey bucket?) of water in the bathroom. Pads can then soak until it is time to do the washing. Over 90% of women find that just the cold water soak removes all stains.

But don't panic if soaking in plain cold water is insufficient to remove any stains ... experiment with adding washing soda, lemon juice, milk, salt or a commercial pre-wash product to the soak water... and use what best suits your body chemistry. Do NOT use chlorine bleaches.

Before using for the first time all pads should be hot machine washed to remove dressings and residues from the fabric manufacturing process. Some Moon Pads are made using unbleached, undyed towelling (they come with a special label) - to remove the starch-like dressings from this fabric they need 2 washes in hot water plus DISH detergent.

Warning: ironing or tumble drying may damage nylon layer of water-proof pads.
